Music: The Necks: The Boys

Okay (don’t ask why, well you can but) forgot what I’ve hastily said times before about no belief in genius – that it’s all just masked hours, super-sweat and will. Maybe that’s what these Australians so subtly contrast (and make mince-meat the anti-notion of) churning minimalist, scary, landscape jazz that’s so unforgettable that when I unearth it among 145 gigs on a drive that I hadn’t listened to in years, I have a chill – a sweet chill of, well, genius. Badalamenti and Miles Davis fans please revisit The Necks, especially this fine album, The Boys. -CM
