“When Novelists Sober Up”

Good read from Intelligent Life Magazine, an offshoot of The Economist.  Like the comment by Hemingway – “he can tell when (Faulkner) he gets tired and does it on corn.” And I agree with the last line of the piece, stay away from the recovery books, writing them anyway, but the line before it, well, it won’t make you any better, but in the South, even if sober it’s hard to stay away from the bars, just too much good stuff there (sometimes that is. Often it’s just tedious, but you go anyway.)  Image from the piece by Kathryn Rathke.  Article by Tom Shone.
