Music: Davy Graham – Large As Life and Twice As Natural

Okay for fans of Nick Drake, John Fahey and other alternately tuned guitar players – acoustic here, but it also applies to both the unplugged and electrified blues of Jimmy Page – can we call them DADGAD(ios) after a fave tuning? No that’s silly. My favorites on this album here by Davy Graham are his ragas, the ‘Blue Raga’ and ‘Sunshine Raga.’ They’re a Moroccan raga style turned Celtic, with a hint of curry and blues as counterpoint. A good remaster in 2007 (oh is that blasphemy, vinyl lovers, oh well, get both). Graham died in 2008; am just getting turned onto him, shame it took so long. -CM
