WRITE YOUR OWN ATROCITY!

“When I wrote The Baltimore Atrocities, I found myself going through the same motions again and again, more than a hundred times over. I found myself wrestling with the same narrative questions, confronting the same emotional abyss, tackling the same problem of drawing without defining. The process did not feel unlike an exercise in poetic form, counting syllables and diagramming rhyme schemes. All with the purpose of revealing the atrocious in whatever moment I was describing.”
-John Dermot Woods

Now The Fanzine is asking you to take a crack at writing your own ATROCITIES! Please submit your fiction of 750 words or less, short fictions that describe the atrocious. We won’t define atrocity for you; that’s your job. We want stories that are truthful, unabashed, and unrestrained.

John Dermot Woods will choose the three most remarkable atrocities and illustrate them. The winners will be given and the original artwork (brush and ink drawings on 9”x12” Bristol board), have their work published at The Fanzine, and will be invited to share their work at The Baltimore Atrocities book launch in New York City. Submit early and often (deadline January 17, 2015).

Please send submissions to atrocities@thefanzine.com
