For Friends with Benefits, Lehmann Maupin asked several of the artists they represent (Angel Otero, Mickalene Thomas, Tim Rollins, Tony Oursler, and Nari Ward) for suggestions of local artists to be exhibited in the show. Especially brilliant are Matias Cuevas’s colorful abstract paintings that swap the traditional canvas for beige carpets. –ABP
