Fearless Freaks of Football
So it’s a Sunday, about two weeks after the election (whoo hoo good things there). As the economy further tanks sans an Obama bounce that we all hope will take effect January 20th, what does one do in the meantime while looking for a job or fretting over a potential pink slip? Well there’s football to be watched, American football that is.
A friend who started a blog about punk rock running (he has his own definition of that) asked me when I became such a football fan. I told him well I had always been one, as it was the one sport I was actually good at. And I guess I repressed it through high school because the fans I knew as a young man were exactly the reason I rejected the sport (and many others), picked up a skateboard and went punk rock. But hey, being a football fanatic, I’m not in bad company, Jack Kerouac, Robert Pollard, and Matthew Barney all played football, as did the Flaming Lips (see the video above). -CM

Obama Wins!

CNN calls it at 11:03pm. Obama with 297 electoral votes, McCain with 135. No chance for McCain. It's over! More to come...

It's 4:20 so...
...if you haven't voted by now, well...get out there. So far a few snags, sounds like a bit more than that in PA and VA. A huge turnout nonetheless, still you can never be sure. If the other party wins well...

Report Voting Problems
This election is seeing record numbers of voters, with reports at some stations of lines of more than 8 hours in early voting. If you experience a problem being able to vote you should report it. The Huffington Post has a page dedicated to news on voting problems and information on how to report such problems if they occur in your area.
In the past, measures such as Poll Taxes kept certain demographics (the poor, which often also meant minorities, especially in Southern states) from voting. Today there are still means employed to make it more difficult for people of certain areas to vote, like lack of voting machines necessary per capita in certain districts (see this report on problems in Virginia). Make certain your vote is counted, let nothing disenfranchise you.
Palin Reaches out to the French

...I mean the Canadians. Errr....Maybe French Canadians? Anyway, remember that fear mongering 3 am ad that ran early in the campaigns? Baaah...that ain't scary. You want to be scared, just remember this phone call here when you pull the curtain tomorrow. Even the most sensible of neo-cons, Christopher Hitchens (we can call him that as an Iraq war supporter, yes?), gives Palin a good jab at her ambassador qualities here, as she lingers on longer than one could imagine with a couple of prank callers. At the very least McCain and Palin need better handlers. Well it's a little late now, only one day away, VOTE people.
